We always give them the excuse that they are too young to understand, or too young to learn certain things. Despite these moments, we all know that children are innocent. Their innocence makes them have the instinct to be curious little angels – wanting to know more, learn more, and grow more.
While we are not very confident if we are teaching our children the right things, it is important to guide them throughout the process. Give them the chance to learn and explore on their own. Let us guide them to their knowledge and intellect. We are not always around our children to watch out for them. What we can do for them is give them the guidance and courage to accept and develop their own thinking.
Quality Care for Children in Garner, North Carolina is really important to us. Little Believer’s Academy always aims to give the best for the children who are under our wings. Here, we put together ways on how we can encourage children to become more independent through their thinking and development.
- Listen to them.
Give them the chance to speak out their thoughts. This will make them confident, young individuals, thereby, also building up their character. This is also a great way to see how their thought processes work. This way, you can guide them easier on how they can deal with things and make decisions for themselves even at a young age. Independent thinking starts with giving them the key to freely open up to you and trust you. Giving them the chance to talk to you creates a bond of understanding and trust. When they open up, don’t get mad. Don’t be angry. Instead, explain to them why some things are not nice and why some things are.
- Focus on how they can do things and not on what they should do.
Give them the capability to do certain things on their own. Hobbies and passions can be seen at a very young age. When children want something, they will always find ways to make things happen. This is independence in their part – thinking of possible ways to achieve their goals. Encourage them to reach their goals and guide them throughout the process.
- Give them a chance to prove themselves.
Even at a young age, they will face failures. They will make mistakes. Do not resent them or get mad if they do not do things right. Give them the chance to prove to you and to themselves that they can do things. Always uplift their spirits but motivating them to do better no matter what people would say, even from words that come from you.
- Guide them through the lessons life is teaching them.
There is no better teacher than life itself. Every day, we will find ourselves facing trials and challenges. The same thing goes for our children. The best thing we can do is to always help them improve their strengths and be there for them to overcome their weaknesses. We are not perfect people. But if we can get them to stand up after each fall or teach them to wipe their tears after each cry, we’re getting there.
- Show them how to do things.
Be a role model. Show them that strength and happiness do not come from other people but from ourselves. It is a choice to be strong and happy and confident. Teach them that the happiness we feel from the people in our lives is a bonus and not a goal. Independence comes with acceptance, confidence, and being able to overcome the obstacles. Teach them that life is to be appreciated and accepted, not loathed.
